Imagine having your daughter’s wedding on the front lawn, the melody of violins with song birds chirping in the background. Perhaps camping out in the backyard with your son’s Boy Scout troop, roasting marshmallows over a fire pit, gazing up at the stars and telling ghost stories. On a hot summer day you could be sipping ice tea with your loved one under the fragrant vine covered rafters of a pergola watching the saffron sunset fade beyond the horizon listening to the serene trickles of water tumbling down the stones of the waterfall.
A house may just be constructed from wood and nails but a home is made from so much more. A home is where you raise your children, have barbecues and family gatherings. A home is at the heart of all those memories. If you take the time to meticulously decorate the inside of your home, you should allow that same type of attention to be given to the outside of your home.
It’s time to start thinking of your outside grounds as an outside home – an integrated living space with various “rooms” that serve different activities. To change an ordinary yard into an outdoor home, you’ll need to begin seeing your landscape as a series of outdoor “rooms”, each serving a different function. Over the years, architects and designers have learned that people are more likely to enjoy landscapes that are composed and decorated using certain familiar patterns and themes. Once you understand why certain landscapes appeal to you and others don’t – you’ll be in a good position to plan your outdoor home.
PHASE I – CREATING CONCEPTS
A member of our design team will meet with you to help determine your needs and the type of environment that you wish to create. We will take measurements and photos to help us accurately document the space around your home. Supported by a clear understanding of your site and equipped with a strong sense of your needs and preferences, BCLS will create a computer generated master plan for your property.
Good plans make it possible to determine your final budget and develop a practical schedule for completing the work. A master plan serves the same function as blue prints did for the contractors who built your home or commercial building. Our years of experience combined with cutting edge technology helps make this an efficient process.
At this point it is a good idea to figure out how much you want to spend on your new landscape. Professional landscape designers and real estate professionals say that it’s reasonable to spend 10% to 20% of the total home value on a professionally installed landscape. With careful planning, you can probably afford more on your landscape than you think.
PHASE II- PROJECT INITIATION
After the concept is finalized, you decide if all components of the plan are to be completed concurrently or if there are primary segments you would like to put into phases of installation. At this point a deposit is payable and we will arrange for further meetings to finalize material selections and project dates.
PHASE III – PROJECT MANAGEMENT and INSTALLATION
BCLS will supervise and coordinate all aspects of the installation process so that we can ensure that you are receiving the best quality and service possible. Typically several vendors are involved with the installation process of a design. We will synchronize all deliveries, installations, payments, and any other activities necessary for your design to be executed properly all the way through to completion. Each aspect of your installation deserves attention down to the smallest details.
PHASE IV- CONCLUSION
We require everything to be to your utmost satisfaction. Regardless of how minor the issue, we will correct any inaccuracy promptly. Upon completion of the work, the remaining balance of the payment is due.
